Play Sensory Occupational Therapist Talks About Attending the 2nd International Conference on Cerebral Palsy

The II International Conference on Cerebral Palsy took place in Campinas (SP), from April 29 to May 1, organized by the Instituto Nossa Casa and with the presence of renowned doctors and professionals from all over the world for this scientific exchange. The theme was “Building Possibilities”.

The event was punctuated by round tables, conferences, interactive clinical cases, symposiums, meetings with experts on the subject, with the intention of transmitting multidisciplinary scientific learning and training to health professionals. The occupational therapist of Play Sensory Play Sensory Clínica Interdisciplinar de Três Lagoas, Dr. Carla Martini, participated in the Congress to update her knowledge in clinical practice.


“Cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder that affects control of movement and posture, it can be caused by injury or damage to the brain. These injuries can affect the area of ​​the brain responsible for muscle and movement control, as well as coordination, balance and posture,” explains the occupational therapist.

The professionals spoke about the diagnosis and treatment of cerebral palsy, its new methods and studies that allow early diagnosis and, therefore, a more advanced and specific treatment of patients.

Innovations in the field were in charge of the speakers, among them the Americans Ginny Paleg and Tom Novachek, the Australian Petra Karlsson for remote participation, in addition to the Canadian doctor Peter Rosenbaum, who has a humanized and stimulation-oriented approach capacities.


“During the Congress, everything we offer at Play Sensory was discussed, a humanized service, which takes into account not only the person with cerebral palsy, but also the family and which treats the individual not as a fragmented being , but looking at the whole and the particularities of each. Those days were a lot of knowledge and he was able to lift very important guidelines” – he says.

Although cerebral palsy is a chronic condition, physical therapy, occupational therapy and other interventions can help people with cerebral palsy improve their independence and quality of life, and it’s never too late to start.
