Scotland won last Sunday (10) the title of the Men’s Curling World Cup, which took place in Ottawa (CAN).

Thirteen teams participated in the World Cup. In the first phase, they competed and the first two qualified directly for the semi-final, while those placed between 3rd and 6th played a quarter-final.

In the first phase, Switzerland were almost unbeatable, winning 11 of the 12 games played and qualifying in first place. Scotland and Norway had 10 wins and 2 losses, with the direct confrontation favoring the Scots, who advanced to second place.

Canada, Sweden and Italy have completed qualifying for the playoffs.

In the quarter-finals, Canada (9-1 in Sweden) and Italy (8-4 in Norway) advanced to the semi-finals, where they faced Switzerland and Scotland respectively. The Canadians defeated the Swiss 7-5, while Scotland needed the extra end to beat Italy 9-8.

In the final, Scotland led by Bruce Mouat got the better of Brad Gushue’s Canadians, winning 9-3 after 8 ends and ending a 14-year drought without titles and winning gold for the 6th time.

In the bronze-defining match, Switzerland defeated Italy 11-3 in a match that ended after 8 ends.
