The match will be broadcast live on SporTV2 and will mark the replay of the final of the last World Cup, played in Sarajevo, Bosnia, last November.. At the time, the Brazilians won and beat their rivals by 3 sets to 2 (25/23, 18/25, 25/21, 17/25 and 15/6).

Brazil and Canada also faced off in the decision for bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, an occasion in which the Brazilians also beat the Canadians, but by 3 to 1 (25/15, 24/26, 26/ 24 and 25/14).

“Canada is the current vice-world champion. He has started a week of training with us. It will be a good test, but our team is different. We have improvised two athletes who are not passers in a position of make the team grow. In addition, our attack should also become more powerful,” assessed Fernando Guimarães, coach of the Brazilian men’s and women’s sitting volleyball teams.

International Paralympic Athletics Open breaks records
The International Athletics Open, which had not taken place since 2019, was again held at the Paralympic Training Center, in São Paulo, between March 30 and April 1. The event received entries from 150 athletes from Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, as well as the recording of a world record, performed by Beth Gomes de São Paulo (F53) when the record was releasedand eight from the Americas.

On the final day of disputes, a climax for two-time Paralympic champion Claudiney Batista, who broke the Americas record in the discus throw in the F56 class (athletes competing on chairs). She launched at 46.99m and bettered her own mark of 46.68m, reached in June 2018, also in São Paulo.

Another new continental mark established during the competition was that of Edenílson Floriani, from Santa Catarina, class F42 (lower limb impairments), who in the shot put on Saturday reached the distance of 14.19 m. He exceeded his own 14.13 m, obtained in March 2022, at the Paralympic CT.

In addition to Claudiney and Ednilson, five other athletes have broken continental records in their competitions: Aser Ramos, long jump (F36); Cícero Nobre, javelin throw (F57); Matheus de Lima, 100m (T44), Zileide da Silva, long jump (T20); and Wanna Brito, who registered two new marks in the F32 class: club throw and shot put. The competition was also marked by the participation of Paraíba sprinter Petrúcio Ferreira, double Paralympic champion in the 100m class T47, who achieved the best race time in 2024 during the Open: 10s55.

Gold, silver and bronze at the International Boccia Challenge in Croatia
The Brazilian duo Evelyn de Oliveira and Mateus Carvalho won the gold medal at the International Paralympic Boccia Challenge in Zagreb, Croatia on Saturday April 1. In the decision of the BC3 class pairs (which use an auxiliary instrument and can be helped by other people), the Brazilians beat the Portuguese duo Ana Costa and José Gonçalves in the tie-break (tiebreak), after a tie by 3 to 3.

With the gold medal in pairs, Brazil closed the competition with three podiums. Evani Calado won silver in the individual BC3, while Evelyn won bronze in the same contest.

TMB Platinum – Table Tennis Cycle I
The Paralympic CT also received 89 Paralympic athletes to participate in the Platinum TMB – Table Tennis Cycle I, Friday, March 31. Cátia Oliveira, Iranildo Espíndola, Fábio Silva, Joyce Oliveira and Carlos Eduardo Moraes were the wheelchair class champions.

In the andante events, Felipe Oliveira took first place in class 6. In the women’s class 7 final, Aline Ferreira scored 3 sets to 1 over Silvana Rodrigues and won the gold medal. On the men’s side, Paulo Salmin beat Israel Stroh, by 3 sets to 2, and climbed to the highest place on the podium.

For Class 8, Lethicia Lacerda defeated Elem Silva and Brigida Reis in the one-stage dispute and won women’s gold. On the men’s side, Francisco Melo beat Luiz Filipe Manara by 3 sets to 2.

In class 9, gold for Lucas Carvalho. In class 10 disputes, Danielle Rauen was the women’s champion, while Claudio Massad won the men’s category. In the final duel of class 11, Thiago Gomes defeated Lucas Hansen, by 3 sets to 0, and won the last disputed gold medal between the Paralympic Games. The competition also brought together more than 1,100 Olympic athletes, between March 29 and April 2.
