Lance Stroll was eliminated immediately in Q1 and will leave in P18 for the Miami GP. The Canadian, who arrives packed alongside Aston Martin this season, saw his team make a strategic error by having only one set of soft tires to compete for the first stage of the classification.
“Qualifying didn’t work out for me today. We did Q1 with just a set of apps. Looking back, it wasn’t the right choice: other teams tweaked a second set and saw big improvements,” the driver explained.
“But these things happen and Fernando came into Q2 using just one set, so it was possible. I’m just focusing on the positives: our car feels good and our race pace is generally very competitive. t is when the points will be scored and there is a long race ahead of us,” Stroll said in a press release.
