Canadian singer Celine Dion announced this Thursday, through a video on social networks, having been diagnosed with a rare neurological disease called Stiff-Person syndrome, which will lead to the postponement of her concert tour.
The 54-year-old artist said in the video that the illness has caused spasms in her body that “directly affect her entire routine”, from the way she walks to her vocal cords.
The condition is also called rigid person syndrome in Brazil and can affect both the central nervous system and cause twitching in the muscles of the trunk and upper and lower limbs.
According to the singer, health problems have been with her for a long time – she had previously canceled performances in Las Vegas – and only now has her medical team discovered the cause, which affects “one in a million people”. .
“It’s been very difficult for me to deal with these challenges and to talk about what I’ve been through. And it pains me to say that I won’t be ready to start my European tour again in February.”
Dion announced the cancellation of some of the shows that were scheduled and the indefinite postponement of others, without giving any indication of when she will be ready to return to the stage. (Folhapress)
