Jamie Lee Curtis didn’t skimp on the praise for Elliot Page this Friday (2). The actor made the cover of the American magazine People, an initiative to give voice to LGBTQIA+ celebrities and celebrate Pride Month. The Canadian actor The Umbrella Academy spoke about his experience with gender transition and how he feels reflecting the trans cause in the media.
The actress, mother of RubyGuest, who is a transgender woman, always shares posts about the LGBTQIA+ cause, and also posted Elliot’s cover, showering him with praise: “Pride and if necessary!” Jamie began. “A time of hope! A voice of reason and empathy! A leader and a guide! Joyful and triumphant! We are all together!”
According to People, the actor is considered the most famous trans person on the planet, since coming out as a transgender man in 2020. During the interview, Elliot reflected on his influence on the community and the new generations. “It means the world to me when the young people I meet can be themselves and say, ‘This is who I am and I’m going to live authentically,'” he said.
Elliot shared that the journey as a trans man has not been easy and while he recognizes his privilege these days, they do not represent the community as a whole. “The reality for transgender people is that they are disproportionately unemployed, living in homeless conditions. Black trans women are being murdered. They are losing access to health care,” the actor said.
When asked what it was like to share his transition with the world, the Canadian admitted that it was a feeling he had never had before, that he easily felt he could exist. Elliot also recalled times when he didn’t want to exist: “I felt like my skin wasn’t really mine.”
