Netflix has announced a new teen series based on the best-selling book franchise. nerdy girl from Waterside Studios, Nelvana, Ruby Rock Pictures and Aircraft Pictures, which will begin production later this year. Here’s what we know so far.

While Netflix is the world’s largest distributor, there is one notable exception. In Canada, distribution will be handled by Corus Entertainment, owner of networks such as Global, Slice, HGTV, W Network and Showcase.
Waterside Studios is led by Executive Producer Jeff Norton, known for his bestselling book screen work. Waterside Studios regularly works with Nelvana (the animation studio owned by Corus Entertainment) on animated and live-action content for children.
RubyRock Pictures is producing the next show. The British company describes itself as a “state-of-the-art script production company” founded by Zoe Rocha. Rocha, next to the production manager Josh Harris acts as a producer on the project.
The Canadian company Aircraft Pictures is also behind the production.
What is this nerdy girl about?
The series itself is based on a series of books by British writer Holly Smale, who produced six entries in the series in total, published between 2013 and 2017.

No casting announcement was made as of June 2023.
On February 2, 2023, Rob Kelly Casting issued a casting call for the female lead in the upcoming series.
In their casting call, they specify that they are looking for an actress to play the role of Harriet Manners and encourage those who are neurodivergent to apply, with a deadline of February 17.

Filming officially began on June 6, 2023 and will continue until September 11, 2023.
