O Google sent a notice to its employees on the East Coast of the United States, suggesting that professionals stay at home while the cloud of smoke caused by the wildfires in Canada reaches New York and other cities in the region.
According CNBCthe memo cites the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as saying air quality in the area “has reached unhealthy levels” from the company, which plans to visit the office at least three days a week.

“We advise Googlers to work from home if possible and limit their exposure to outdoor air,” the note reads. “The rooftops of our New York campus will also remain closed.”
In addition to NY, workers in the Detroit, Washington DC, Virginia, Pittsburgh and North Carolina area have received the notice. In Canada, which is going through its worst wildfire season, Google informed employees in Toronto and Waterloo, Ontario.
In 2020, Google faced a similar situation in California, when the state faced air quality issues for nearly a month, due to wildfires in the state. At the time, the company released similar resources, also offering products and equipment for employees to work from home.
