Women’s wheelchair basketball team loses tight debut to Canada at Worlds

Brazil’s women’s wheelchair basketball team made their debut early this Saturday, 10, at the World Championship, being held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with a hard-fought match against the Canadians, won by their opponents by 61 to 56 .

The championship takes place from June 9 to 20. For the Brazilian men’s and women’s teams, the World Cup will be the main preparatory event for the Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chile, which will take place in November. The year-end continental event will offer a direct berth to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The dispute in the United Arab Emirates hosts more than 300 players, representing 16 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams.

In his debut, against a selection that is among the main rivals of the American continent, Perla dos Santos was the Brazilian star, with 16 points scored and four assists.

In defense, Paola Klokler had the best numbers, with 12 rebounds.

The team’s next match will be against Great Britain on Sunday 11 at 7:30 am (Brasilia time). Spain, Australia and China are also in the same group as the national team.

Earlier, at 5 a.m., the debut of the men’s team will take place, which will face the local team, the United Arab Emirates.
