The Brazilian men’s wheelchair basketball team was beaten by Canada 69-53 in the early hours of this Thursday 15 and was eliminated from the World Cup of the modality, in Dubai, in the round of 16.

From now on, the Brazil men’s team will compete for a place up to 11th place overall in the competition. In the group stage, the Brazilians ended the stage with a victory, over the home team of the United Arab Emirates, and two defeats, against Italy and Australia.

The dispute brought together more than 300 players, representing 16 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams until the 20th. For Brazil, this will be the main preparatory event for the Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chile, scheduled for November. The year-end continental event will offer a direct berth to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

In the game, the Canadians topped the scoreboard on the first pitches of the game. The 15-9 lead in the first quarter was extended to 35-20 in the second, which kept Canada in control of the game in the other periods.

In the third and fourth quarters, Brazil reacted and tried to close the gap at times. But the opposing team maintained a 15-point advantage and finished 69-53.

This Friday the 16th, the women’s national team faces Spain at 2:45 a.m. (Brasília time), for the last match of the group stage. The athletes have played four matches so far and have not won.
