Nothing like one day after another. After performing below expectations during the rainy qualifying session in Montreal, the Ferrari improved in dry track conditions in the Canadian GP, played this Sunday (18), and took fourth place with Charles Leclerc and fifth with Carlos Sainz. After the Ferrari duo finished in the top 5 of the race, boss Frédéric Vasseur celebrated the result and the precious points in the fight for the place of second best team in the constructors world championship of F1.

Ferrari bounced back in style at Round 8 of the 2023 season after the strategic error that caused the elimination of leclerc in Q2 and the three-position penalty of sainzwhich took the Spaniard out of the group of 10 best placed for the starting grid in Montreal.

After sixth place Sergio Perezof Red Bull, and the retirement of George Russell, of Mercedes, who had problems with the right front brake of the W14, the Italian team was the only one of the three main teams of the constructors’ championship in 2024 to finish the Canadian GP with both cars in the top 5. In this context, the team manager praised the result on the Canadian track.

“Today was a good day and a good race. The strategy and the pace were good and we recovered well, leaving the riders on track for longer,” Vasseur started. “It’s always important for the whole team, including the drivers, to maximize the result. I think we’ve taken a big step forward. We have to try to correct the mistakes made in qualifying, we’ll talk about it together on Tuesday.

Leclerc and Sainz’s result in Montreal brings Ferrari to life, having featured updates to the sidepod of the SF-23 – similar to the design of the RB19, by Red Bull. Vasseur highlighted the evolution of the team in terms of race pace, but he has already said that more news for the next stage, the Austrian GP.

“We are progressing step by step, but we are awaiting confirmation on other tracks. We have to focus on the next Austrian GP, ​​where we will bring updates to the car. But everything must be organized, without making mistakes,” he concluded.

The cars will return to the track in two weeks, more precisely between June 30 and July 2, for the Austrian GPround nine of the 2023 F1 season.
