GDF blocks BRL 1 billion from the 2023 budget; health and education are among the most affected areas | Federal District

Governor Ibaneis Rocha (MDB) determined, this Monday (22), the possibility of 1 billion BRL of the Federal District budget for 2023. Among the areas with the highest blocked amount are the Health Fund (R$342 million) and the Secretary of State for Education (R$79 million).

The State Secretariat for Planning, Budget and Administration was the second most affected, with a blockade of R$159.7 million. The measure also concerns regional administrations, security forces, other state departments and foundations.

O g1 contacted the GDF but did not hear back until this post was last updated. The decision was published in the Official Journal of the DF (DODF) on Monday.

In the decree, the government states that it considers “the need to maintain a balanced budget, to meet the mandatory expenses of the bodies and entities that make up the tax and social security budgets, with adjustments to the public accounts aimed at achieving budgetary targets.

The measure does not affect mandatory spending with cash spending, parliamentary amendments and constitutional obligations.

The education lockdown is taking place while teachers in the capital are in strike for better wages and working conditions. At the start of the shutdown, the category union claimed that the last adjustment dated back to 2015. For Sinpro, the increase in 18%granted by Governor Ibaneis to civil servants “is not even enough to reset the inflation of the period”.
