The world (continue) is keeping tabs on all developments in the search for the submarine that disappeared with five people on board as it headed for the wreck of the Titanic in the Atlantic Ocean.

Recall that communication with the submersible was lost 45 minutes after the start of the dive, Sunday evening (local time), said the company OceanGate Expeditions, owner of the ship and organizer of trips to the wreck of the Titanic.

The remains of the Titanic – which sank after colliding with an iceberg in 1912 – lie at a depth of around 3,800 meters and at a distance of around 640 kilometers south of the Canadian island of Newfoundland.

Communication was lost while the ship was about 700 kilometers south of São João da Terra Nova, according to the Canadian Joint Rescue Coordination Center.

The submersible had a 96-hour reserve of oxygen when it went out to sea, which turns the operation into a time trial. Time is running out – at 12:08 this Thursday (Lisbon time) – to find the Titan.
