The largest harp festival in the world, RioHarpFestival 2023, takes place in Rio de Janeiro from 1st

In July, Rio de Janeiro becomes the world capital of the harp. And the XVIII Rio Harp Festival who enter July 1 and 31, 2023 it presents 30 harpists from 22 countries, around 150 musicians distributed by several orchestras (many of which come from social inclusion programs developed in the communities), inserting the festival in Brazil as the strongest of the world circuit. The public success of previous editions also confirms the importance of the Brazilian success. Banco do Brasil sponsors the project through the Federal Culture Incentive Law.

There are 73 concerts in 31 uninterrupted days, all with free admission, in the most diverse formations of the harp and similar. These are musical cultures that range from the most famous harp, born between Europe and North Africa in the 8th century, to the Japanese koto. In a diversity that goes from the lute of the duo of Lebanese origin Al Nur Kibir to the musicians trained in the communities of Rio de Janeiro and to the consecrated classical instrumentalists coming from the most varied parts of the globe. O XVIII Rio Harp Festival brings together exhibitors from South Africa to India, as well as representatives from almost all of Europe and Latin America.

Most presentations take place in the Banco do Brasil Rio de Janeiro Cultural Center (CCBB RIO), which receives 54 recitals in two daily presentations in its theater, with a capacity of 172 people. There will also be recitals at Arte Sesc Rio, Flamengo, and venues ranging from CCJF (Cultural Center of Federal Justice), Cinelândia, SESC Quitandinha, Petrópolis, Real Gabinete Português de Leitura, Biblioteca Nacional , Jockey Club, Palácio São Clemente – Portuguese Consulate, Casa Museu Eva Klabin, in addition to tourist and historical points of Rio de Janeiro, such as Corcovado and Fort Copacabana.

Among the highlights of the 2023 edition is the German harpist Markus Thalheimerwhich opens the program at 1 p.m. on July 1, sharing the CCBB RJ stage with the camerata of the Uerê project, made up of children and adolescents from the communities of Rio de Janeiro who play string and percussion instruments.

Another meeting of European harpists with Brazilian music, the Belgian Heleen Vandeputte, who makes special arrangements for children’s songs from Brazil, such as “Se Esta Rua Fosse Minha” and makes four presentations at the CCBB RJ, from July 17 to 20. .

The extensive program also includes, on the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd (Saturday and Sunday), the Fujiyama Nippon trio, from Japan, representing the koto – Japanese horizontal harp. On the 28th (Friday), it’s the turn of Duo Portinari, named in honor of the great Brazilian painter, bringing together Argentinian harpist Soledad Yaya and Canadian violist Peter Pas.

Brazil is represented by musicians like the harpist Vanja Ferreirasoloist of the UFF National Symphony Orchestra, who plays in different formations, including the duet with Elder Teixeira and the participation with Rio Camerata, in addition to the Quarteto Diamante Negro, formed by black musicians.

Other attractions are programs mixing foreign and native harpists, bagpipes, cavaquinhos and Madrigal Cruz Lopes.
