Natal Secretary of Health talks about care in UPAs
Natal Health Secretary George Antunes said the dossier will ask inspection bodies and the police to investigate certain medical certificates that have been presented by health officials. According to the secretary, some “have already been detected as fake certificates”.
This statement by George Antunes was made in an interview this Wednesday (17) at the Hello RNof Inter TV Cabugi (see full interview above).
The secretary had been asked about the reduction in the number of health professionals in urgent care units (UPA), such as that of Pajuçara, which had a notice at the entrance this week, about the reduction of staff – and faced with an increase in attendances which reached 400% in the capital Potiguar, according to the Ministry of Health.
The holder of the SMS said the dossier placed more professionals in UPAs due to increased attendance, but claimed that “What happened was an exaggerated number of medical certificates.”
“Including certificates, some of which will be studied because we have certain types that do not convince us,” he stressed.
George Antunes said he would apply to the prosecution, fraud office and medical board to verify the authenticity of the certificates.
“We have certificates that are legitimate, obviously we respect all of those, some that are classified as graceful, and others that are already detected as fake certificates,” he guaranteed.
The secretary clarified that the lack of professionals has widened “mainly in this period of a volume of attendance”, which has exhausted the teams. He says there is a kind of “attestation trade” In Natal.
“These are not fake doctors’ certificates. There is a trade in certificates, a sale of certificates, people who falsify certificates. It is indeed being processed. First contact has already been made with the MP We are going to put the police stations responsible for this type of investigation, also ask the College of Physicians and the whole of society to fight against this type of crime,” he said.
“I already have a good number to put forward and that will be determined,” he concluded.
According to him, currently the largest number of certificates placed come from nursing staff. “But it’s almost generic. Because most of the doctors in UPAS are cooperative doctors and if they’re away they don’t get the money for the shifts, so there’s no reason to put a medical certificate,” he said.
About the plaque at UPA Pajuçara, George Antunes said that the direction of the unit should have initially requested the secretariat, which in this type of situation replaces the necessary manpower. According to him, the situation has normalized in the unit.
