The first installment of the sum collected during the event “Mozambique: a united history”, organized by Somos! – The Portuguese Language Communication Association (ACLP) left Monday for Maputo, the Mozambican capital.

“In this first installment, we have transferred approximately 11,300 patacas (1,272 euros) to cover the costs of the architect and the purchase of the equipment necessary to start the works”, noted the president of Somos-ACLP, Marta Pereira. .

The remaining amount will be sent as the work progresses. To build the mini-library at the primary school, around 28,000 patacas (3,152 euros) should be needed, estimated the official, stressing that “there are always changes and unforeseen events”.

“We would like to help with the purchase of offices and the refitting of sanitary facilities. However, we have consulted the teachers of the school and other agents involved in this process and, from the beginning, the choice fell on the structure of the mini-library”, added Marta Pereira, noting that the reading space will not only serve the children of the school establishment, but the area it serves, the neighborhood of Polana Caniço.

Somos-ACLP, which is working on the project with the Mozambican cultural association Hodi Maputo Afro Swing, estimates that the library will be completed before the start of the next school year.

“It would be a good start for all the boys and teachers in this neighborhood of Mozambique,” ​​said the president of the association.

In 2020, Somos-ACLP launched a solidarity campaign to support underprivileged children in São Tomé and Príncipe in the purchase of school supplies.

The following year, aid would reach the women of Guinea-Bissau, but “the pandemic changed the course” and the project ended up not moving forward.

The objective was “to help with clothes or reusable sanitary napkins for girls in shelters, contraceptives for disabled girls”, in addition to “food for women who work digging stones and collecting sand for supporting families in rural areas”.

In Lusa, Marta Pereira says she would like to recover the idea of ​​the next “solidarity initiative”, in 2024.
