The Formula 1 circus leaves the European continent, where the Spanish GP took place on the 4th, in Barcelona, and will be on the other side of the Atlantic this weekend, for the eighth stage of the World Cup, the Canadian GP, in Montreal, on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit.
Last year, pole went to Verstappen, with a time of 1min21s299. He himself was the winner of the race, organized on June 19, 2022, followed by Sainz and Hamilton. Click here and see how the 2022 Canadian GP went.
If he wins the Canadian GP, in this case his 41st in Formula 1, Max Verstappen equals the number of triumphs of the Brazilian Ayrton Senna (1960-1994).
After a run below what it has presented so far, Aston Martin promises updates on the AMR23 so that Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll can perform better. Mercedes have already taken it up a notch, with the improvements they debuted in Monaco that brought Hamilton and Russell to the podium in Spain.
CHAMPIONSHIP
Verstappen added a further 25 points for the win and one for the fastest lap of the Spanish GP and has 170 points, dominating the table, with Sergio Pérez in second, with 117. Alonso follows in third, with 99 points. Then the two Mercedes drivers: Hamilton is fourth with 87 and Russell fifth, with 65. Carlos Sainz closes the top 6, with 58.
HISTORICAL
Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton are the record holders for Canadian GP victories, both with seven triumphs. Among the Brazilians, Nelson Piquet has three victories (1982, 1984 and 1991), Ayrton Senna won twice (1988 and 1990) and Emerson Fittipaldi won the race once, in 1974.
From the current grid, in addition to Hamilton, who won for F1 in Canada, Fernando Alonso also won, in 2006, and Max Verstappen, winner last year.
