Demi Lovato’s performance at The Town festival, in São Paulo, will once again show the most rock side of the American singer, who gave one of the best shows of Rock in Rio 2022.
Riffs, solos, intense drum lines should be highlighted not only in the hits of this new album, like in “29”, but also in the old hits which give good rock versions, like in “Confident” and “Heart attack”. On Friday (2) of The Town, the girls will take advantage of these moments to show their talent and their vocation for heavy rock.
Demi Lovato at The Town: find out how the show will unfold
Mainly responsible for this heavier rock vein in the show is guitarist Nita Strauss. She recently left rock icon Alice Cooper’s band to join Demi on this tour.
During her presentation, Nita, or Hurricane Nita (Nita Hurricane), as she is known, guaranteed riffs, solos and distortions to thrill the audience. And there was still hair and faces and mouths and she was very comfortable on stage next to Demi.
In “Sorry, Not Sorry,” for example, Demi even gave center stage so Nita could show off her talent. And she did it beautifully.
Just like in the rock version of “Cool for the summer”, in which, neck and neck with bassist Leanne Bowes, they played a little heavy metal at the beginning and then at the end, when Demi was no longer on stage.
Leanne, meanwhile, began her career in Canadian female punk band Hunter Valentine, opened shows for names like Cindy Lauper and Sum 41 and, in addition to Demi, also played in Marina’s band (ex- and The Diamonds).
In an interview, she said she learned bass when her drummer father asked her to help with a project. For that, I would have to learn the bassline of the song “So Lonely” by The Police.
Leanne was 12 at the time and fell in love with the sound of this instrument. She then learned to play all the CDs in the house, such as Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails and Alice in Chains, her mother’s influence.
It was under the influence of her mother that Brittany Bowman, Britt Bowman, the drummer of Demi, “sold his soul to music”, as his biography puts it. She was 5 years old and listened to the radio in the car with her mother. The Beatles were one of his favorite bands.
At the age of 10 he met Green Day and became involved in punk rock and enjoyed drumming. At 15, he was already playing in concert halls in Chicago, his hometown. During Demi’s show, she showed dynamism and intense percussion.
Keyboardist Dani McGinley is originally from London, England, and currently lives in Los Angeles. He began his career very young, with classical music and then with jazz. At 17, still in England, he began to perform as a pianist and singer.
Dani also supported performances by Charlie XCX, Zara Larsson, Marina and Shamir. With Shamir he opened for Troye Sivan, The Years & Years and the tour which joined Duran Duran and Nile Rodgers & Chic.
