The National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEM) is part of the Joint Task Force (FOCON) that Portugal will send in the coming days on a mission to support operations to fight the forest fires that are ravaging this North American country. . The INEM team is made up of 7 professionals and its main mission is to provide medical support to FOCON operators.
The Portuguese mission includes professionals from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), the Emergency, Protection and Rescue Unit (UEPS) of the National Republican Guard, the Institute for Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF) and INEM.
This mission stems from Canada’s request for international assistance, the Portuguese response being part of the European Civil Protection Mechanism.
The INEM team was made up of its Pt EMT (Portuguese Emergency Medical Team), a structure certified by the WHO (World Health Organization). It is made up of 2 Doctors, 2 Nurses and 2 Pre-hospital Emergency Technicians (TEPH) and 1 Logistician (GLO). The team will have at its disposal all the clinical equipment and materials necessary to guarantee differentiated medical support in terms of Advanced Life Support and Advanced Life Support in Trauma.
