Three players from Santos’ recent past haven’t shone since leaving Peixe. Soteldo, Marinho and Kaio Jorge played important roles in the Copa Libertadores da América runners-up in the 2020 season, being coach Cuca’s trusted men.
Together, the SMK trio scored 78 goals during their entire time at Santos. Marinho and Soteldo arrived in Peixe in 2019, requested by Jorge Sampaoli. Kaio Jorge was revealed by the Santos base and even featured in a few games for the Argentine, but it was after Sasha’s departure in the 2020 season that he rose to prominence.
After that, two left Peixe for international football and Marinho stayed in Brazil, in a controversial move to Flamengo. But, until then, the players could not repeat the same success compared to their passages by the Santos team.
Kaio Jorge
Menino da Vila, Kaio Jorge transferred to Juventus after a stalemate in contract renewal. For the negotiation, Santos will receive 3 million euros (about 18.5 million reais), in two installments. The first was paid in August and the second will be paid this year. Moreover, Peixe will keep 5% of the ‘added value’ in a future transfer (5% of what Juventus gets on top of the €3m).
On the pitch, Kaio wasn’t so lucky. He only made 13 professional appearances and scored one goal. The striker was dropped from the 2021 Champions League entry list and ‘relegated’ to the Juventus aspiring team. He is currently recovering from surgery for a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee during a game for the Juventus U23 team.
In total, Kaio Jorge has scored 17 goals in 84 professional games for Santos, an average of 0.20 goals per game.
Soteldo
The 10 Soteldo shirt was sold in 2021 in Toronto for US$6 million (about R$33 million), but the amount Peixe would be entitled to was passed on to Huachipato, Chile, due to the debt for the purchase of the player., in 2019. Peixe also paid the Chilean club $500,000 to clear debts at the time.
With the ball, however, things didn’t work out. He entered the field for the Canadian team in just 25 games, scored four goals and provided six assists before being sold to the Tigres of Mexico. And things are not going well. He played 16 games and scored one goal. The problems actually go deeper.
According to information published by the Mexican press, Tigres is analyzing two proposals received from the Venezuelan player and is ready to accept due to cases of indiscipline and lack of commitment for the pre-season with the team.
With the shirt of Alvinegro Praiano, the 10 of the Venezuelan team played for two seasons. There were 104 matches and 20 goals scored.
Marine
Marinho arrived at Santos at the end of May 2019 in a negotiation with Grêmio involved in the exchange for defender David Braz. He started with Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli this season, but had his peak at the club in 2020, being the king of America in Peixe’s Copa Libertadores runners-up and top scorer of the season.
He had a contract with Peixe until December this year and could sign a pre-contract with another club in June. The striker was interested in working in the Arab world and doing his “half-foot”. The proposals, however, did not arrive. Its sale brought in 1.3 million US dollars (7 million reais) in the coffers of Vila Belmiro.
But at Flamengo he couldn’t repeat his great performance. Since joining the Carioca team, the striker has played 20 games, with just one goal and two assists. Most games he came off the bench. In 12 games he was on the bench for all 90 minutes.
In total for Santos, the striker has 112 games, 41 goals, 17 assists and 8414 minutes played.
