With 3 gold medals, Brazil shines on the first day of the Pan American and Oceania Judo Championships

Brazil started on Pan American and Oceanian Judo Championshipwhich takes place in Calgary, Canadawith three athletes on the top step of the podium. In addition to the gold medals of Larissa Pimenta (52kg), Matthew Takaki (60 kg) and Daniel Cargnin (73kg), the Brazilian team also won five other medalstotalizing eight achievements on the first day of competition, with three gold medals, one silver and four bronze.

Brazil brought a full delegation to the competition in Canada, for both the individual and team competitions, with the aim of earning important points for the Olympic race and preparing well for the Grand Slam in Baku, Azerbaijan, which will begin on September 22.

Among the women, Brazil won two medals in the under 52 kg category. After a Brazilian duel in the semi-final, Larissa Pimenta reached the final against Mexican Paulina Martinez and won the gold medal, while Jessica Pereira then competed for third place and got the bronze medal in the category.

In the under 57 kg category, the Olympic champion Rafaela Silva won the silver medal after being overtaken by Canada’s Christa Deguchi. Brazil still won the bronze medal in the under 48 kg category with Natacha Ferreirawho however recovered from his defeat in the semi-final in the under 63 kg category, Ketleyn Quadros lost the fight for third place and Nauana Silva ended up being defeated in the first fight.

Among the men, the Brazilians won two medals in the under 60 kg category. Matthew Takaki competed well and beat Australian Joshua Katz to win the gold medal for Brazil, while Michael Augusto He won the third place competition and took bronze in the category.

In competition up to 73 kg, Daniel Cargnin showed that he was recovering well from his injury and won the gold medal. The Brazilian defeated Canadian Arthur Margelidon in the final bout and put Brazil once again on the top step of the podium. In the category up to 66kg, William Lima lost the first fight but made it to the repechage and sought the bronze medal for Brazil.

On the program this Saturday (16) athletes in the weights 70kg, 78kg, +78kg, 81kg, 90kg, 100kg and +100kg will fight. To close the competition, on Sunday 17, we will have mixed team competitions which also define the ranking of this Olympic event in Paris.
