McLaren’s Oscar Piastri took his first F1 victory at the Qatar Grand Prix after starting from pole position. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen secured second place and thus sealed his third world championship title in 2024. Lando Norris, also from McLaren, completed the podium. Mercedes’ George Russell put in a remarkable performance but finished fourth, followed by teammate Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, faced tire problems and finished sixth and seventh respectively. The race was marked by several interruptions, including three safety cars.
A few minutes after the conclusion of the Sprint, Leclerc and Canadian Lance Stroll were punished with 5 seconds added to their total race time for exceeding the track limit four times.
