It was not this time that Ingrid Oliveira won the long-awaited gold medal in the individual diving event at the Pan American Games. The jumper was emotional when talking about the difficult year she experienced, but she said she was satisfied with the result, even if she did not obtain the medal. In addition to the concerns Ingrid faced regarding her mental health, the athlete said she fell ill upon arriving in Santiago, due to the drastic temperature changes in the country.

– I was very happy, because I was coming off an injury, because during the World Cup I only managed to train for three weeks, so I was a little worried. I was a little scared too, because yesterday I was very, very unwell. I’ve had the flu, sore throats, sinusitis, I get a lot of sinusitis when the weather changes. Here, the weather changes absurdly. I woke up and it was really cold, then I go to breakfast and it’s really hot. Sinusitis hits hard, says Ingrid.

The podium included a Mexican double, with Mexicans Gabriela Agundez and Alejandra Orozco in first and second place. Canadian Caeli McKay won bronze. The competition continues for Ingrid, but now without qualification for an Olympic place.

– After Asia, the American continent is the second most powerful continent. It’s a very high level competition, I already knew that the race would be very competitive. I was there, focused on myself, so I didn’t care what they were doing. So much so that I went to stay by the pool there, because I didn’t even want to look at the girls – said the jumper.
