Brazil’s women’s beach volleyball duo defeated Puerto Rico on Monday to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the Pan American Games. Duda and Ana Patrícia won by 2 sets to 0, with scores of 21/15 and 21/11 and will play again this Wednesday.
“It’s been very special, it’s a tournament we haven’t been to yet, a very big tournament. We are doing our best to win this medal, which will certainly be very special for our career,” promised Ana Patrícia.
The men’s duo was defeated by Cuba, in the tie-break, with the partials of 16/21, 21/18 and 8/15. Despite the defeat, André Stein and George finished second in the group and reached the round of 16, played this Tuesday. Opponent and time depend on another match.

Badminton rankings
Those who also had a ranking day at the Pan were the Brazilian badminton duos. Davi Carvalho and Fabricio Rocha beat the United States team 2-1, with the differences of 21/19, 15/21 and 21/18 and will now compete in the semi-finals this Tuesday, at 9:40 a.m. (Brasilia time) .
Still in the quarterfinals, Juliana Viana and Sania Lima beat the Canadian pair 2-1, with scores of 21/9, 19/21 and 21/18. Now, the Brazilians face the United States pair this Tuesday at 11 a.m.

Olympic vacancy for modern pentathlon
Brazilian Isabela Abreu finished the Pan American Games in ninth place, with 1,313 points. Thus, the athlete who finished with the best South American performance secured a place at Paris 2024. Gold and silver went to Mexican sisters Mayan Oliver (1,423) and Catherine Oliver (1,407) . Bronze went to Sophia Hernández (1,385), born in Guatemala and competing at the Pan American Championships as an independent athlete.
