Brazil is in contention for the medals this Thursday, during the seventh day of the Pan American Games in Santiago. The country won important places in the finals, notably in baseball and boxing, as well as a medal in sports shooting.

Medal in sports shooting

Brazil won bronze in this sport with Felipe Wu. In the 10m air pistol dispute. he was surpassed only by Tugrul Ozer (gold), of Canada, and James Hall (silver), of the United States.

Baseball

The Brazilian team won a medal in this sport. Colombia’s victory over Mexico put Brazil in the decider for the first time in its history. The Brazilians face Mexico before the decision, which will be made on Saturday.

Bárbara Santos, in the under 66 kg category, defeated Colombian Camila Bravo 3-2 and qualified for the decision. Caroline Almeida, up to 55 kg, is also in the running for gold, having beaten another Colombian, Ingrit Valencia, 4-1.

In the under 57 kg category, Jucielen Romeu beat Venezuelan Omailyn Segovia by the same score and competes for the first place on the podium. In the men’s under 51 kg category, Michael Trindade beat Argentina’s Ramon Quiroga in the semi-final and is also fighting for gold. Abner Teixeira reached the final after beating Colombian Cristian Salcedo in the over 92 kg category.

Tatiana Chagas, Caroline Almeida, Bárbara Santos, Keno Machado, Michael Trindade and Abner Teixeira also secured a place at the Paris Olympics, which will take place in 2024.

Basketball

After beating Mexico, the women’s team won again in Santiago. Without difficulty, they beat Venezuela 94 to 47 and remained 100% in the competition.

Tennis

Gustavo Heide reached the round of 16 in the men’s singles group. Against the Canadian Justin Boulais, the Brazilian won 2-0, with a double 6/3. Laura Pigossi also won. The Brazilian beat the Peruvian Lucciana Perez by 2 sets to 1, with scores of 2/6, 7/5 and 6/4.

A few hours later, Laura Pigossi, now alongside Luisa Stefani, returned to the field and also beat the Ecuadorians Mell Reasco and Camila Romero by 2 sets to 0, with scores of 6/2 and 6/3. In men’s doubles, Gustavo Heide and Marcelo Demoliner qualified for the quarter-finals thanks to a victory against Jamaicans Blaise Bicknell and Rowland Phillips, 2-0, 6/2 and 6/3.

Brazil’s perfect day of tennis ended in mixed doubles. Luisa Stefani and Marclo Demoliner overtook Canadians Justin Boulais and Rebecca Marino. The Brazilians won the first set 6/4, but lost the second 3/6. In the tie-break, they scored 10-7.

Handball

Brazil continues with a constant campaign in the women’s tournament: the victim, this time, was Cuba, beaten 49 to 11. In the first phase, the Brazilians finished group B with 100% success.

Surfing

Tatiana Weston-Webb has qualified for the third stage of the Pan de Santiago. She easily overtook Canadian Sanoa Dempfle-Olin. In the dispute between Brazilians, Krystian Kymerson defeated Marcos Correa, after being beaten by the Peruvian Miguel Tudela and going to the repechage. Espírito Santo also beat Argentina’s Leandro Usuna to stay alive in the Pan American Championship.

Beach volleyball
