Brazil once again performed well in fencing, winning the gold medal in women’s team fencing. In women’s epee, Brazil, comprised of Amanda Simeão, Nathalie Moellhausen and Victoria Vizeu, won the gold medal after beating the Canadian team 45-40 in the big decider. It was the first time Brazil won a medal in women’s epee in history, as well as being the first gold medal in fencing in Pans since 1967.
Brazil were always on top in the final, with Moellhausen, Simeão and Vizeu controlling the match well. Canada was still looking for a reaction, but it wasn’t enough, Brazil managed to reach 45 hits first, and with a five advantage over the Canadians.
With the end of pan fencing, Brazil won five medals in this discipline, one gold and four bronze.
