This Tuesday, Bayern Munich announced the signing of 17-year-old Australian prospect Nestory Irankunda. The player belonged to Adelaide United, the club that revealed him.
Irankunda, who turns 18 on February 9, will join Bayern on July 1, 2024 on a long-term contract.
“Nestory is a very fast winger, a good dribbler and a finisher who has an eye for goal. We believe in his potential and that he will take the next steps with us,” said Jochen Sauer, youth director of the Bavarian club.
The young athlete was born in a refugee camp in Tanzania, after his parents abandoned fighting in their home country of Burundi.
Irankunda has previously defended the under-17 team of Australia. Called up for the main team for the matches against Colombia and Ecuador in March, he has yet to make his debut for the country.
His arrival at Bayern is part of the search program for young people with high potential, as happened with the Canadian Alphonso Davies, of Liberian origin, signed in 2018 at the age of 17, and the French Kingsley Coman and Mathys Tel, arrived at Bayern. club at 19 and 18 respectively.
