After the Canadian site of retailer Best Buy leaked an image and information about the compact version of Nintendo’s Wii video game, the company has confirmed the launch of the new model of the console initially launched in 2006.

According to Nintendo, the new model is called “Wii Mini” and will launch on December 7 exclusively in Canada for $100 — the company hasn’t said if it will be Canadian dollars, but as it will be sold in the country, we can deduce Yes. There are no plans to launch in other markets.

Pre-purchase of the new video game model begins this Tuesday (27).

The compact Wii has a smaller design and comes in red and black.

The lack of Internet connection prevents, for example, purchasing games via the eShop store. There is also no backward compatibility with the GameCube, Nintendo’s old console.

The change in game inputs, which are now placed when opening a lid – and are no longer sucked in – is another change that Best Buy says “increases the useful life of the device because there is no mechanical motor to pull the game disc.”

The “Wii Mini” appeared in a Nintendo report that was leaked online and published by the “Nintendo World Report” website. The site claims that the leaked document was allegedly sent to a chain of gaming stores. In it, there is also information according to which the “Wii Mini” would come with the Sensor Bar, the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk extension.

The company launched the Wii U in the United States on November 18, Nintendo’s sixth video game, successor to the Wii and first of the new generation of consoles. As a highlight, the device runs high definition graphics and has a tablet control, the gamepad, which brings new ways to play games.
