Lula will have at least five bilateral meetings during the G7

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has already received eight requests for bilateral meetings during the G7 Summit, a group formed by the seven largest economies on the planet. The only meeting request requested so far by the Brazilian president concerns Pope Francis, also invited to participate in the meeting scheduled for June 13-15 in Borgo Egnazia, Italy.

The G7 summit will bring together the seven members of the group (United States, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Japan, Canada and Germany) and guests.

According to Itamaraty, this is the eighth time since 2003 that President Lula has been invited to the meeting. The Brazilian president’s seventh participation took place last year, at the summit in Hiroshima, Japan. and at the summit, the president will address topics such as decent work, fighting hunger and taxing the super-rich.

For diplomatic reasons, Itamaraty only published the four invitations to bilateral meetings already accepted by Lula: that of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Mod; and the presidents of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, of France, Emannuel Macron, and of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

“The other four requests for bilateral meetings are still being evaluated,” informed the Secretary of Economic and Financial Affairs, Ambassador Mauricio Lyrio.

Before participating in the G7 summit in Italy, Lula will participate in the conference of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva (Switzerland). The Brazilian president will open the meeting, the central theme of which will be social justice.

According to Itamaraty, in his opening speech, Lula is expected to present some Brazilian proposals and initiatives in favor of workers’ rights and reiterate Brazil’s position against inequality and social exclusion.

According to Planalto, Lula should leave for Geneva this Wednesday (12). Arrival is scheduled for the morning of the 13th, knowing that there is a time difference of five time zones between Brazil and Switzerland.

On the same day, at night, the Brazilian president travels to Italy, where he will stay until June 15, when bilateral meetings are scheduled, and will probably return to Brazil at night. This edition of the meeting will have the themes of artificial intelligence, energy, Africa and the Mediterranean.
