Venezuela and Canada faced each other this Friday (4) in a duel for the quarterfinals of the Copa América. After an exciting 1-1 draw in regulation time, with a great goal from Rondón for Venezuela, while Shaffelburg scored for Canada. Thus, the match went to penalties and the Canadian team emerged victorious by winning the alternative penalty shootout by 3-2.

Canada’s semifinal rival will be Argentina. The Hermanos eliminated Ecuador on penalties on Thursday. The duel will take place this Tuesday, at 9 p.m. (Brasilia time), at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

An electrifying first half

Canada started better, looking to attack. Shaffelburg had already complained about a tackle in the box for which the referee had not awarded a penalty. With ten men, defender Bombito saved twice, which was a sure goal for the Canadians. However, in the 12th minute, there was no way: Jonathan David’s cross found Shaffelburg well placed. The striker played without a chance for goalkeeper Romo. Canada 1-0. Thus, the first half ended with a partial victory for the Canadian team.

Rondón’s superb goal leaves the score level

In the second leg, Venezuela came back better and was rewarded with a great goal from Rondón, who took advantage of the goalkeeper’s advance and scored almost from midfield. 1-1. However, the match continued with lost chances on both sides, but with a slight superiority of Rondón and his team. In the end, Canada put pressure on Romo’s goal without much danger. Thus, the match ended 1-1 in regulation time.
