Duda and Ana Patricia beat Canadians to become Olympic beach volleyball champions

With this title, Brazil becomes Olympic champion in women’s beach volleyball again after 28 years. The last achievement dates back to the Atlanta Games in 1996, when Jaqueline Silva and Sandra Pires won gold.

The game

The Canadians started the match by showing more consistency on the court. Confident, Melissa and Brandie served well, were confident in defense and launched powerful attacks on the sand. In a short time, the Brazilians’ rivals opened the score 8-2.

Even with such a disadvantage on the scoreboard, Duda and Ana Patrícia did not let themselves be discouraged and started a great comeback. Point by point, the Brazilians entered the match once and for all and equalized the first half in the final stretch. The game was then balanced and the set was decided in detail. Better for the national duo, who won 26 to 24 and took the lead in the Olympic decider.

The duel continued at a high level in the second set. The duos were overflowing with technique and took turns leading the score. The balance was maintained until halfway through the partial. From then on, the Canadians were better, showed more efficiency and scored 21-12, tying the match at 1-1.

In the third and decisive set, Duda and Ana Patrícia came out more connected. Thanks to a good variety of offensive plays, the Brazilians put their opponents to the test and opened up a significant difference on the scoreboard. Without losing their concentration, the national duo won 15-10, closing the match 2-1 and winning the long-awaited Olympic gold.
