Mick Schumacher will step into the beleaguered car this weekend at the Azerbaijan GP. German driver Haas is one of the few on the grid yet to score in the 2022 season, along with Canadian Nicholas Latifi of Williams.
Unlike what happened in 2021, the Haas car is much more competitive. His teammate, the Dane Kevin Magnussen, occupies the 10th position in the drivers’ championship, with 15 points.
Despite lacking points so far, Mick is optimistic about the race in Baku, where he put in one of his best performances in Formula 1. Last year he started in 17th place and finished to 13th position, which was only surpassed in Hungary, when he achieved 12th place.
“[O GP do Azerbaijão] it was one of our best performances last year. So I hope that with a more competitive car, we can also be higher [na classificação] and good race“, strong points.
Michael Schumacher’s son points out that the car is in a good performance position in Baku. “Our car was able to cover pretty much all the tracks we did, so I’m happy to have a good race.“, explains Mick.
Summary of Mick Schumacher’s 2022 season
The 2022 season has started promisingly for the Haas driver. He was one position away from winning the first point in the opening race in Bahrain. Also in the Middle East, at the next GP, Schumacher had an accident during qualifying and was unable to participate in the race due to medical recommendations.
In the following GPs, the German driver only made discreet races oscillating between 13th and 17th position. In Monaco, Mick spun and hit the guardrail violently. The force of the crash was so strong that it split the car in two. While the footage is disturbing, he emerged from the crash unscathed.
