Trampoline gymnastics is a breathtaking sport that sees athletes leap more than eight meters into the air while performing a series of intricate spins and somersaults. As it is a very technical sport, trampolines must have an exceptional sense of balance as well as absolute precision.

Compared to other gymnastics sports, trampoline gymnastics is relatively new, making its first appearance at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, where both men’s and women’s competitions were introduced. Since then, the number of events has remained unchanged.

How many athletes will compete in trampoline gymnastics at Paris 2024?

A total of 32 athletes, 16 per gender, will participate in the trampoline gymnastics events at Paris 2024. A quota in both genders will be allocated to the host country and another instead of Universality.

A maximum of three NOCs (National Olympic Committees) can receive two quotas per gender. Other NOCs will receive a maximum of one quota seat per gender.

All participating athletes must be born before December 31, 2007.

What is the path to the trampoline gymnastics ranking for Paris 2024?

Places will be allocated according to three criteria:

Criterion 1: 2023 World Championship (November 2023)

• Women: minimum 4 athletes, maximum 8 athletes
• Men: minimum 4 athletes, maximum 8 athletes

The eight highest ranked male athletes and the eight highest ranked female athletes based on the results of the finals will each qualify for a quota place for their NOC, with a maximum of one athlete per NOC.

If two athletes from the same NOC participate in the final, the highest ranked athlete according to the ranking round will be considered for criterion 1.

Criterion 2: Individual Trampoline Gymnastics World Cup circuit 2023 and 2024 (February 2023 to April 2024)

• Women: minimum 2 athletes, maximum 12 athletes
• Men: minimum 2 athletes, maximum 12 athletes

Five World Cup competitions will take place during this period. The three best results of the five events will be taken into account, regardless of the number of competitions in which the athletes participated.

The top ranked male and female athletes will earn a quota seat for their NOC with a maximum of one per NOC based on the Olympic Ranking List, provided their NOC did not qualify in Criterion 1.

The top three athletes in the Olympic Ranking can qualify for a second place for their NOC, provided their NOC is ranked in Criterion 1.

An athlete who has obtained a seat for their NOC via criterion 1 can participate, but not obtain an additional seat for their NOC.

Criterion 3: Continental Championships (or other continental ranking event approved by the FIG)

• Total: Maximum of 4 athletes

The best male or female athlete, based on the results of the finals of each continental championship, will qualify for a quota place for their NOC, provided that the continent has not already qualified in criteria 1 or 2. A championship continental will only be referred to as an event ranking if the continent has not ranked a quota place through criteria 1 or 2.

What is the schedule for the Paris 2024 trampoline gymnastics competition?

There will be two medal events at Paris 2024: the men’s singles and the ladies’ singles.

Both events will take place on August 2 at the Arena de Bercy, which is one of the most well-known architectural structures in Paris, with a truncated pyramid shape covered in grass.

Trampoline gymnastics athletes will keep an eye on Paris 2024

Since trampoline gymnastics was first included in the Sydney Olympics program in 2000, Chinese athletes have won 14 of the 36 medals available. Its trampoline gymnasts are once again expected to shine at Paris 2024.

Tokyo 2020 Gold Medalist, Xueying Zhuof the People’s Republic of China, will try to defend her title, but it will not be an easy journey, because Olympic history teaches us that only one athlete, the Canadian Rosie MacLennan, won consecutive gold medals. She will face fierce competition, including the Chinese star Cao Yunzhuwho won silver at the 2021 world championships at 17.

The winner of the world was the double Olympic champion Bryone Page, from Great Britain. The 31-year-old also won a stage at this year’s World Cup, as well as Chisato Doihata from Japan and Cheyenne Sarah Webster United States, and also won the European Trampoline Gymnastics Championships in 2022.

After the abandonment of the four-time Chinese Olympic champion Dong Dong, Nishioka Ryusei from Japan and Diogo Abreu of Portugal performed well in the men’s competition of the 2022 World Cup series – notably the 18-year-old Japanese star who won silver at the 2021 World Championships.

The current world champion Yan Langyuof the People’s Republic of China, and bronze medalist of Tokyo 2020, Dylan Schmidtfrom New Zealand, are two athletes to watch as well.

Trampoline gymnastics qualification schedule for Paris 2024

• 2023 (June to October): 3 World Cup competitions
• 2023 (November): World Championship
• 2024 (March – April): 2 world cup competitions
• 2024 (April to May): Continental Championships (or other continental classification wind approved by the FIG)
• Date to be determined: Immediately after the respective qualification event for the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the FIG will inform the NOCs/NFs of the places allocated to them for the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
• + two weeks: Two weeks after the information from the FIG, the NOCs must confirm the use of the quotas allocated to the FIG
• January 2024: Deadline for NOCs to submit their applications for Universality Seats
• Regarding the end of the classification period for each sport: The Tripartite Commission must confirm in writing the allocation of Universality Seats to NOCs
• Date to be defined: FIG must reallocate all unused slots
• July 8, 2024: deadline for sports registrations in Paris 2024
• July 26 – August 11, 2024: Paris 2024 Olympic Games
