The students of the Escola Canadense de Goiânia – Maple Bear have distinguished themselves with important prizes, both in Brazil and in the world, with an emphasis on competitions involving subjects in the STEM field, an acronym used to define science, technology, engineering and mathematics. These areas involve a series of other approaches, which point to cohesive learning, based on real-world applications, mainly, in encouraging interdisciplinarity, in addition to innovation, one of the main axes work of the institution.
In 2022, the students achieved an unprecedented feat by winning the “Mission Impossible” category of the World Robotics Tournament – FIRA 2022, considered the Robotics World Cup and the biggest event in the segment on the whole planet. The students have emerged as champions on the world stage in the dispute with students from countries like Mexico and Colombia.
Also this year, students had a great turnout at the Kangaroo Mathematics Olympiad; Brazilian Olympiad of Astronomy and Aeronautics (OBA) – 4 medals, 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze – and the Brazilian Rocket Show (MOBFOG) – expected result for the month of October -, organized by recognized institutions such as the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB).
With regard to mathematics, for example, 64 students from grades 6 to 9 of primary school in Maple Bear Goiânia received medals at the Olympic Games, considered the largest competition in the world in the discipline, with participants from 75 country. This year’s Brazilian edition had the participation of more than 2 million students from the 3rd year of primary school to the 3rd year of high school, coming from more than 3,000 Brazilian public and private schools.
Of the 64 prizes, 11 were gold medals, that is, the students are among the best placed nationally. 10 others received silver, 21 bronze and 22 merit. It should be noted that this was Maple Bear’s first participation in the competition.
To justify the excellent results, the institution emphasizes that the methodology applied daily, encouraging, through teachers, the permanent interest of students in the various nuances of mathematics, technology, robotics, innovation, logical reasoning, among other perspectives on practical matters, promotes student success.
