Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II
Now a smaller ceremony will begin, for 800 guests: the Royal Family, representatives from Commonwealth countries and Queen’s officials.
The second funeral
The second funeral will take place in the Chapel of Saint George, at Windsor Castle. The coffin is carried to the Wellington Arch, a mile journey that must be covered in a 45-minute procession, led by Canadian Mounted Police. The streets are filled with thousands of people who gather for the Queen’s final farewell.
Again, King Charles III, his brothers and sons follow the procession on foot. Camilla, the Queen Consort, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle follow the procession in the cars.
The king left a note in the middle of the bouquet above the coffin. The card reads: “In loving and devoted memory. Charles”.
The procession also has representatives from the armed forces of the UK and other Commonwealth countries, the police and the National Health Service.
The coffin will be carried in a hearse from Wellington’s Arch to Windsor Castle, from where another procession will depart for St. George’s Chapel. There, the Queen’s second funeral and interment will take place.
The second ceremony will represent the end of the reign of Elizabeth II. The Imperial State Crown, Scepter and Orb will be removed from the top of the coffin by the Royal Jeweller.
A mass will be celebrated and at 7:30 p.m. London (3:30 p.m. GMT), the Queen will be buried alongside her husband Philip and her parents and sister.
