In a good day for the Canadian, Bia ended up not taking advantage of break chances in the second set
could not Beatriz Haddad Maia in the second round of the US Open in the early hours of Thursday (1). The Brazilian lost to Canadian Bianca Andreescu, champion of the tournament in 2019, by 2 sets to 0, with partials of 6/2 and 6/4 in 1h35 of play. Eliminated in singles, Bia turns to doubles, where she will join the Kazakh Anna Danilina in New York.
How was the game
Inspired, Andreescu had an excellent first set with only three unforced errors. The Canadian decided to play a game full of variations, constantly changing the height, weight and direction of the ball. The tactic had an effect in the first game: Bia ended up being broken and only managed to get one break point chance in the whole set. Without any gap, Bianca would score one more break in the last match to win the partial by 6/2.
In the second set, Andreescu did not keep the same rhythm. More erratic in the ball exchanges from the back, the game became more even, with Bia excelling in service returns. However, the Brazilian had two break chances in the fourth game and another two in the sixth. In both cases, the Canadian was saved. Bianca obtains a break, imposes good services in the last straight line and secures the victory by 6/4.
