With an eye on the Superliga A, in addition to training hard the athletes who are already part of the team, ABEL Moda Vôlei, in recent months, has been investing in the search for new players. So far, 6 athletes with extensive experience have already been hired. But, in the next few days, other reinforcement names should be confirmed.
“We are waiting for the end of the state championships. It will be easier to choose, maybe even some who were part of the team last year,” underlines coach Maurício Thomas. Graziela Ribeiro de Souza, American Anna Wruck and Fernanda Sagrillo Depine are already at Brusque preparing for Superliga A.
Graziela recently returned from a season in Europe, during which she was champion with AJM/FC in Porto, Portugal. In addition to the Portuguese team, Graziela has also played for Volley Club Harnésien, from France, and Bluesoft Mazovia, from Poland. Anna Wruck comes from experiences at VC Wiesbaden in Germany and Pölkky Kuusano in Finland.
Fernanda Sagrillo Depine was a three-time runner-up in the Brazilian National Teams Championship (CBS), 5th place in the World Under-18 Teams, 1st place in the Paraná Sub 21 Cup, best passer, 1st place in Superliga C 2020 and 2nd place in CBI U-21-2022, in addition to being called up for the Brazilian national team Lab 2019, Lab 2020, Lab 2021 Lab 2021 and call-up for the U-18 World Cup, Lab 2022 and call-up for the Brazilian Team National U-2021.
Tip Geovanna Vitoria Caetano Rodrigues, Colombian Laura Pascua and Canadian Lexi Pollardi are expected to arrive in the coming days. It is possible that Sassa, who already played with ABEL Moda Vôlei last year, will return to the team and play in Superliga A.
Geovanna was called up to the Brazilian youth team in 2018 and participated in important tournaments at the national level, becoming a top athlete and champion of the Brazilian Interclub Championship (CBI) in 2017, champion of the team championship Brazilian National (CBS) in 2018 and 3rd place in the Paraná Cup in 2018. Last year, Geovanna was considered the outstanding athlete of the Minas Tênis Clube Women’s Volleyball. Laura Pascua comes from an experience in Romania with ACS Volei Turda. And Canadian Lexi Pollardi has played at VCN Meuwied 77 in Germany and Eindesberg Volley in Sweden.
Thomas explains that foreign athletes arrive later due to bureaucracy, work visas and the conclusion of contracts, and Brazilian athletes are also engaged in other teams and state championships. Without forgetting those of Santa Catarina who will participate in the Santa Catarina Open Games (JASC) and will only be available after November 20.
“So we are going to have a difficult start in Superliga A, lacking from the first matches,” he assesses. The expectation is to improve the result with the arrival of new athletes. Even being optimistic, since ABEL Moda Vôlei was in second place in Superliga B, the coach recalls that the Santa Catarina team is the one with the lowest budget in Superliga A. Thomas says that the objective is to reach the Superliga A play-offs, which runs from November 1, 2022 to May 7, 2023, the date of the final.
The technician explains that these signatures and the following ones are the fruit of the investment of the sponsors. “We are very happy that the companies of Santa Catarina believe in our team. This encourages us to seek the best result and to affix the name of our sponsors on all our advertising materials”, he underlines.
