San Diego (USA) – In the resumption of her professional career on the circuit, Luísa Stefani will compete next week in the WTA 500 in San Diego, on hard courts in the United States. The Brazilian is forging an unprecedented partnership with the Australian Storm Sanders. The debut will be against Americans Alyssa Ahn and Katherine Hui.
This is Stefani’s fourth tournament since returning to the field, recovering from injury and knee surgery. The 25-year-old from São Paulo was champion in Chennai, with Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski, and fell on her debut in Tokyo, with Japanese Ena Shibahara. Last week he played the singles draw at the ITF in Rancho Santa Fe, USA.
If they make their San Diego debut, Stefani and Sanders can face Japan’s Shuko Aoyama and Eri Hozumi or Australia’s Ellen Perez partnered with North American Nicole Melichar-Martinez, seeded 3 in the tournament.
On the same side of the table are Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and Mexican Giuliana Olmos, second best pair of the season and seed 2 of the tournament, who face North Americans Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria. Hosts Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula were also seeded and will face China’s Yifan Xu and Zhaoxuan Yang.
