Serbia beat Canada and put pressure on Spain

Valencia (Spain) – Even playing at home, counting on the current world number 1 and with a solid team, Spain runs the risk of being excluded from the Davis Cup final. That’s because Serbia broke Canada’s unbeaten record in Group B, claimed their second triumph in the competition and forced ‘Armada’ to beat South Korea in Sunday’s clash.

The Serbian victory began to be written in the hands of Laslo Djere, who opened the series against the Canadians to the measure of forces with Gabriel Diallo, 20 years old and currently 334th in the world, beating his rival in straight sets, with a doubled 6/2. Then, Felix Auger-Aliassime took over Miomir Kecmanovic with partials of 6/3 and 6/4, leaving everything tied.

Kecmanovic returned to court soon after to join Filip Krajinovic for the doubles dispute. The Serbs only played three games and had to withdraw Canadians Alexis Galarneu and Vasek Pospisil when the score was 2-1 in the first set.

Already ranked, Canada leads Group B with two wins and one loss, the same campaign as Serbia, which comes second by tiebreaker criteria. For Spain, there are now only two very different alternatives: either they finish first, or they are eliminated from the competition.
