Bell Media is a Canadian media company that filed a lawsuit to stop pirated IPTVs from broadcasting the 2022 World Cup matches. A similar situation already happened in 2021, when La Liga and Telefónica obtained, by legal means, block 40 pirate IPTV providers.
What the Canadian conglomerate wants in this case is for the Federal Court of Montreal to grant an injunction that obliges Internet service providers to prohibit access to illegal servers. This is because deleting sites is not such an effective measure, as new sites always appear for the same purpose.
In general, there are two services that operate illegally and are at the center of this process and neither of them has an official name. What we do know is that we have servers in the UK, Russia, and the British Virgin Islands. All of them are operated by providers located in the Virgin Islands and also in Ukraine.
As for the other, its servers are based in Belize, which is a country bordering Guatemala. The responsible provider is located in the same region. The pirate forwarding action occurs through multiple websites and link aggregators, making it difficult to block addresses.
Other companies that are part of the process are Sports Network and CTV Specialty Television. At first, none of this has a direct impact on Brazil, but it should be remembered that the fight against these IPTVs is also taking place here. Recently, the Ministry of Justice launched an operation which fought of this type in 11 states.
