The Brazilian men’s sitting volleyball team debuted with victory at the World Cup in Sarajevo, Bosnia, beating Poland 3 sets to 0 (partials 25/16, 25/8 and 25/11) , this Friday the 4th. The two teams are in Group C of the competition, alongside Germany and Canada, teams who also faced each other in the first round. The Germans prevailed and beat the Canadians 3-0.

In the first part of the confrontation between Brazilians and Poles, there was a certain balance at the start, with Poland taking the lead with a small gap. However, Brazil turned around, kept the lead and closed at 25-16.

Brazil’s tallest man, Joelison Fernandes da Silva, aka Ninão, at 2.37m, entered as the scoreboard showed 24-15 for the side under coach Fernando Guimarães. In the first offer he did not get the counter, but in the next one, in an attack not defended by the Poles, Paraíba defined the set.

In the second half, the least balanced of all, the Poles held the Brazilians up 8-8. Fourth in the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, the men’s team is looking to qualify for the next edition of the mega event, which will be held in Paris, France, in 2024. For this, the team must achieve the World Cup decision in Bosnia.

The women’s team opens on Saturday

Bronze medalists at the last two editions of the Paralympic Games, the women’s team will also be at the World Cup, with the debut scheduled for Saturday 5, at 4 a.m., against Germany. The two teams make up Group C along with Italy and Finland.

For both men and women, the finalist teams guarantee a place for the Paris 2024 Games. A total of 25 athletes will represent Brazil in the tournament which ends on November 11.
