Alexandre Galgani reaches the final and finishes 7th with the R5 rifle at the World Paralympic Sport Shooting Championship

Alexandre Galgani of São Paulo qualified for the decision and came in seventh place in the R5 Air Rifle – 10m – SH2 Mixed Prone Position on Monday 14 at the World Paralympic Shooting Championships, which was held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. To advance to the final, the Brazilian sniper scored the sixth best score among all competitors in the qualifying round: 636.6 points.

In the decision, the athletes have a smaller number of shots, and the man from São Paulo, with a score of 146.0, ended up in seventh place. Ukraine’s Vasyl Kovalchuk (254.6 points) won the gold medal, followed by Bolo Triyanto (252.9) of Indonesia and Slovenia’s Francek Gorazd Tirsek (232.6) silver and bronze.

Two other Brazilians also participated in this same race. Jéssica Michalack, from Santa Catarina, finished the contest in 34th place, with 631.2 points, while Espírito Santo Bruno Kiefer was in 36th place (630.8) in qualifying.

Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) high-level sports director Jonas Freire said the country’s delegation had achieved their first goal in the competition, which was to make it to the final. “We hope to make further progress in the next editions of the Shooting Sport World Cup”, he underlined.

It was Alexander’s third dispute in the competition. Last Tuesday, the 8th, in the first day of competitions with athletes from Brazil, São Paulo and Espírito Santo Bruno Kiefer achieved the best marks in the Americas in the dispute Air Rifle R4 – 10 m – Standing Stance Misto SH2. With 628.3 points, Alexandre ranked 16th, while Bruno scored 625.6 points and finished in 22nd place.

The race had other athletes from the Americas and all of them underperformed the Brazilians. North Americans Jazmin Almlie (621.5 points) and Madison Champion (612.7 points) were in 38th and 50th place respectively. Canadian Doug Blessin (620.7 points) finished the race in 42nd place. Finally, the Uruguayan Carmelo Milan, with 618.7 points, found himself in 45th position.

Then, on Friday the 11th, Alexandre took part in his second competition of the tournament and placed 29th in the R9 Air Rifle – 50m – Mixed Prone Position SH2.

In clay pigeon shooting (trap), last Thursday the 10th, São Paulo André Colin placed 12th in the qualifying round, with 98 hits and did not advance to the final.
