Abroad, Lula wins in most of Europe; Bolsonaro wins in Israel, Japan and the USA

The polarization between Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) and Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the race for the Presidency of the Republic was also the star among Brazilian voters who voted abroad.

According to the latest bulletin published by the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) early this Monday (3), Lula came out on top with 47.13% of the vote (137,643), against 41.63% for Bolsonaro (121,591) – with 99.15% of ballots counted abroad.

Contrary to the result of the vote on Brazilian territory, Ciro Gomes (PDT), with 4.54% (13,257 votes) appears slightly ahead Simone Tebet (MDB), which reached 4.47% (13,053). The difference between them was less than 200 votes, which still leaves room for the emedebista candidate to take third place.

Luiz Felipe D’Ávila (Novo) appeared with 1.28% of the vote (3,752), followed by Soraya Thronicke (União Brasil), with 0.26% (753).

So far, among foreign cities that have already counted 100% of the polls, Lula has won in 79 and Bolsonaro in 44.

In the UK and most European countries – such as France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Norway – the former president has edged out the re-election candidate. Bolsonaro, in turn, won in Japan, Israel and most cities in the United States.

In South America, Lula won elections in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Colombia. Bolsonaro has beaten the petista in Bolivia, Paraguay, Ecuador and Venezuela.

In China, Lula got the most votes, mainly thanks to his victory in Beijing and Shanghai – while Bolsonaro won in Guangzhou and Hong Kong. The petista has also won in South Korea, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Lebanon.

Bolsonaro received more votes than Lula in the United Arab Emirates, Greece, Indonesia, Mozambique and the Dominican Republic.

According to the TSE, more than 697,000 Brazilians living abroad were able to vote in the country’s presidential elections – those living outside Brazil can only vote for the president, not for other positions.

The number of registered voters increased by 39% compared to 2018. The number of voters abroad corresponds to 0.45% of the 156.4 million citizens who vote in Brazil.
