Williams announced on Wednesday that the paint launch for its cars for the 2023 Formula 1 season will take place on February 6. In the midst of an overhaul to hope for better days after finishing last in the constructors’ championship in four of the last five seasons, the team will take Thai Alex Albon and his new partner, American Logan Sargeant, to the presentation of the new colors of the vehicles.
Fourth in Formula 2 last season, Sargeant was chosen to drive Williams in place of Canadian Nicholas Latifi. At 22, he will be the first American to race in F1 since Alexander Rossi, who drove for the defunct Manor at the end of the 2015 season, replacing Roberto Merhi.
“It is a great honor and a dream come true to have the opportunity to compete in Formula 1 for Williams Racing,” said Sargeant. “Being part of the Williams Driver Academy last year has given me an important platform to develop as a driver and prepare for this next chapter. I am ready and excited to be part of this journey as the team is looking to move up the grid.”
In addition to the reformulation of its team of pilots, Williams will also have novelties in its administrative part. Team boss Jost Capito resigned at the end of last year, but the name of his replacement has yet to be announced. Technical director FX Demaison was also fired. Formula 1 in 2024 kicks off on March 5 with the Bahrain Grand Prix, the first of 24 scheduled races.
