Indigenous people denounce Belo Sun for ‘destroying’ the Amazon

Pará indigenous people attending the UN Biodiversity COP-15 in Montreal, Canada have denounced the Canadian mining company Belo Sun, which intends to install the largest pit gold mine opened from Brazil in the Volta Grande do Xingu region (PENNSYLVANIA).

The denunciation embarrassed Canada’s Environment Minister, Steven Guilbeault, who considers the holding of COP-15 as a great opportunity for the country to assume a leadership position in the implementation of actions aimed at conserving biodiversity.

However, the leaders Articulação dos Povos Indígenas do Brasil (Apib) and the NGO Amazon Watch take advantage of the conference to show that the situation of Belo Sun in Pará is directly contrary to the discourse of the Canadian government.
