Historical ally of the Cuban regime, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defended the end of the economic blockade on the island
A historic ally of the Cuban regime, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has defended the end of the economic blockade on the island. In a speech delivered at the Casa Rosada, in Buenos Aires, after a meeting with the President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, the PT said it was proud of Cuba’s participation in the Community of Latin American States and Caribbean (Celac). This Tuesday 24, Lula will participate in the CELAC summit in Buenos Aires.
“I hope that soon Cuba can return to a process of normality, that the blockade of Cuba that has lasted for more than 60 years without any need will end, because Cubans do not want to copy the Brazilian model, they do not . want to copy the American model . , they want to do their model,” Lula said in the speech.
For the president, Celac was an “extraordinary inspiration”, also for being a possibility to meet Latin American countries without the United States and Canada.
“We were not born to be poor. We want to be developed. We want to grow economically. Our people do not want to be miserable, they want to belong to the middle class and that is why we must fight, so that these people live with dignity in Latin America and that is possible. We have already done this once. Argentina did it too. And we will get it again. And I hope that Venezuela and Cuba will do what they want and that we won’t have to intervene,” Lula told Casa Rosada.
