Dubai, United Arab Emirates) – After working with various partners since her return to the circuit, Luísa Stefani will once again play alongside Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski at the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells. The tournament starts on March 8.
Stefani and Dabrowski were successful in the second half of 2021 with a WTA 1000 title in Montreal and WTA 1000 runners-up in Cincinnati at the 500 in San Jose. They were also semi-finalists at the US Open in a campaign cut short due to a right knee injury, which sidelined Luísa for a year.
When the Brazilian returned to play last year, she and Dabrowski were Chennai champions. The 25-year-old from São Paulo also won titles with Storm Hunter, Taylor Townsend and Shuai Zhang, in addition to celebrating her first Grand Slam in mixed doubles, alongside Rio Grande do Sul’s Rafael Matos.
In the past two weeks, Stefani played alongside Kazakh Anna Danilina in Doha and Dubai, but failed to win. This Monday, they were defeated in the debut of the first WTA 1000 of the season, against American Bethanie Mattek and Canadian Leylah Fernandez by 1/6, 6/3 and 11-9.
“Another hard match and in detail. I leave with my head held high at the end of the tour, a super positive assessment of this start to the year. I’m going home happy with the results and I can’t wait to rest and train home before the North Americana tour, where I’ll be playing with Gaby again. Super excited for the next steps.”
