Brazil advance in Para badminton tournament in Spain

The Brazilian para badminton team continues to put on a show at the international tournament in Vitória, Spain. This Tuesday (21), Brazil won seven matches in doubles and singles. Brazil returns to the court this Wednesday (21) with a 14-game lead. The competition runs until Sunday (26).

In men’s doubles, for the WH1 and WH2 classes, Marcelo Alves and Julio Cesar Godoy beat the Japanese Hiroto IIzuka/Reo Oyama by 2-0, 21/19 and 21/18.

In women’s doubles, Ana Gomes and Daniele Torres Souza easily beat Britain’s Sharon Jones-Barnes and Heidi Mannien 2-0, 6/21 and 5/21.

Rogério Junior de Oliveira and Edwarda de Oliveira Dias did well in the mixed doubles in the SL3 and SU5 classes and defeated Bulgarians Dimitar Pavlov and Emona Ivanova 2-0, with splits of 21/8 and 21/3.

On the men’s side, Rogério Junior Xaviera, of the SL4 class, stood out again and beat the Peruvian Renzo Diquez Morales by 2-0 with partials of 21/16 and 21/9. As for SH6, Vitor Gonçalves Tavares beat the Canadian Justin Kendrick by 2 to 0, 8/21 and 6/21.

In WH1, Marcelo Alves beat Irishman Michael Smith by 21/4 and 21/0. Vitor Gonçalves Tavares passed the Canadian in the SH6 class by 8/21 and 6/21.

In women’s individual, Edwarda beat the Portuguese Inoi Ferreira by 2 to 0, partials of 21/12 and 21/11.

Brazil returns to the court this Wednesday (21) with a 14-game lead.
