Storms in Canada leave traces of destruction and at least 5 dead | World

The storms that hit Canada on Saturday (21) killed at least five people and damaged the structure of cities in the Ontario region.

According to a bulletin from the meteorological service, there is also a group of injured people and at least 350,000 people have been left without power due to damage to the transmission network.

“A series of very strong storms developed near Sarnia late Saturday morning and moved northeast over southern Ontario toward Ottawa Saturday afternoon. Gusty winds were reported across a wide swath of southern Ontario as the severe storms passed,” the preliminary report said.

Winds reached over 130 km/h, downing power lines, uprooting trees and destroying homes. Locals are sharing footage of the damage on social media with #ONStorm, at the request of the weather service. (see below)

On Sunday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to social media.

“The storms that swept across Ontario and Quebec yesterday caused severe damage, claimed several lives and left many people without power. We are thinking of everyone affected and thanking the crews working to restore power – we stand ready to provide federal support if needed,” Trudeau said.
