Canadian driver Lance Stroll, of Aston Martin, was the victim of a cycling accident in Spain this weekend, according to a press release published on Monday by the team of Formula 1. As a result, he will miss pre-season testing in Bahrain this week.
The two options on the team’s table are its reserve drivers: Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne, former McLaren driver, and Brazilian Felipe Drugovich, current Formula 2 champion. The tendency is for Aston Martin to opt for Drugovich, because Vandoorne is a Formula E driver and has an appointment scheduled for this weekend, at the E-Prix in Cape Town, South Africa.
According to a statement released by the team, Stroll suffered minor injuries and expects a “speedy recovery”. The Canadian’s return to the cockpit will be assessed daily and Aston Martin is due to issue a further update ahead of the Bahrain GP, the first stage of the championship on March 5.
“I had an unfortunate accident while training on my bike in preparation for the season. I’m determined to get back in the car and I’m excited for the season with the team. I’m motivated to recover from this step back because as soon as possible.” , commented Lance Stroll.
Pre-season testing in Bahrain begins this Thursday and will continue until Saturday.
